Fable II
What can I say about
fable ii? Again a long awaited game I was eager to
play (it did make me buy an XBOX360, enough said). I guess the
major problem with the game is that, because you have so many
options, you think that anything should be possible. O.K. now
you can play a girl, but does it really matter? The story is
very linear and whatever you do, or in deed however you behave,
it does not have any great impact on the story as a whole. I did
good things and I did bad things. The first time around I was so
good that all of a sudden a halo appeared, so I guess overall I
was doing more good than bad.
But what bugged me all along are the inconsistencies. Why can
everyone pet and stroke my dog, my dearest companion and why
can't I? And assuming that I had to keep up my strength as an
adventurer the first time I played the game I had hearty meals
only to discover that I grew fatter and fatter and once you are
portly it is very hard to lose weight even though you run around
for days without eating. Only some food items make you slim
down, but they are scarce. The second time around I just didn't
eat, but only took a nap once in a while or a potion if
absolutely necessary. I haven't dropped dead yet.
As I said, such seemingly illogical or inconsistent parts of
the world get to bug you a lot. The first time around as a girl
adventurer I was being practical. So I thought that pants would
be a lot more practical to run around in than a dress. Yet you
are more attractive in a dress. Why do things have to be so
stereotype? Of course as a female adventurer I didn't want to
get pregnant, because I couldn't envisage myself running around
with an ever extending belly and I really do not like games like
the sims.
So even in marriage, always protected intercourse. As I'm an
avid reader I thought that it would be a good idea to marry the
bookstore keeper. Bought his store as well to support my man.
But what does the lazy .... do? He quits his job and turns into
a snivelling, jealous, keeping-up-with-the-joneses house
husband. No support whatsoever. Again very stereotype (also the
fact that you do not need protection when your marry a girl).
Fortunately he left me after I overstayed my adventure. Being
married to a girl is exactly the same, so no news there. And why
can't I marry the more attractive watchmen? I'll stop here, as i
could go on and on.
Story wise it is just another hero-king story. And what fun
is playing on after you have sacrificed your dog in the ultimate
'test'? Yes the graphics are beautiful and the music is very
atmospheric. But all in all I prefer the first
fable game.
