Dargo & Moya

saying about cats by Stephen Baker

When I was making this website I soon found that I needed "room" to add the odd comment now and then. I could have written a Blog, but I'm enough of a realist to know that I do not have the time. So this is more my corner for the occasional note.

NB. clicking on a link will open a new window (as I hope that most of you will be using a tab-enabled browser I go against usability advice here).

  • Academics at Nottingham Trent University are partnering with the Bradford, UK National Media Museum to launch the country's first National Videogame Archive, to preserve the history of the medium and "recognize the significant contributions made by videogames to the diversity of popular culture across the globe."

The Archive will not only collect consoles and cartridges, but a "broad range of items from across the industry," documenting games as a cultural phenomenon with ad campaigns, magazine reviews, and artwork. It will be housed and cared for at the museum, and built and researched in collaboration with the University's Centre for Contemporary Play.

  • On April 7 about one year and one month after his partner and co-founder of Dungeons and Dragons Dave Arneson passed away. He was only 61.
  • After having played several XBOX360 games one Saturday I had an hour to spare and thought that I should have another go at finishing assassin's creed (PS3). And to my great amazement it was EASY. Probably I just needed some extra general controller practice (although my thumb hurt for days afterwards). Now finally all the story-pieces fitted together and as many other players I'm anxiously awaiting the second game. Having played fable ii I now appreciate assassin's creed more. My ideal game at the moment would have to be a cross between assassin's creed, fable I (note I not II) and The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess.

  • Looked at loads and loads of games (for me that is). I had a go at lego indianay jones (XBOX360), drawn to life (DS), Zelda phantom hour glass (DS), Beowulf (XBOX360),  broken sword the angel of death (PC), assassin's creed Altaïr's chronicles (DS) and (fortunately for me) a short bejewelled (PDA) addiction.

  • Christmas days are also great to play games with my brother and his family. As always the Raving Rabbids (TV Party) were a great hit but we also had hilarious moments with Wii Music. I thought that the game was designed so that you could not play any false notes, but there my family proved me wrong.

  • Yes I did cave in finally and bought an XBOX360 (hey fable II makes you do a lot of weird things). I played and finished Fable II. (See the link for my review).

  • Great news. Tim Schafer, in a bout of nostalgia as he claims himself, has released the original Grim Fandango puzzle document. It is not often that you get to see the original design script for a game, so either out of nostalgia for a great game or just to see how this adventure game was conceived, find a copy on the net e.g. at Scribd
